Damaged Time

Thinking I can fix my watch on my own, I tried to open it and do some “not so expert repair”. Sadly, it became worst. Before I open it, the minute hand, hour hand & second hand are together. After pulling something out, I mess things up. So I brought it to a technician and he fixed it in no time. That got me thinking about difficulties in life.

Sometimes we are trying to fix things on our own instead of relying to someone who can definitely help us. God knows our story and He knows our burden even before we asked. [Matthew 6:8] The technician keen’s way of fixing the watch reminds me how beautiful God’s ways are – how He fixes things on His ways and on His time. Ways beyond what our hearts and mind can comprehend but assures better days. [Isaiah 55:8] No struggles last forever when you’ve got a God who holds and fixes our limited time.

Handpicked by God

Me: A little rain is necessary in our life. But what if it’s a storm?

Me: Have you ever been in a situation where you felt that whatever you do the outcome is always the opposite of what you wanted? Where you’re struggling so much and you haven’t recovered yet but another trial is on your way? To the point that you asked God, “Why of all people You’d let this happen to me?”

Rainbow Painter: Faith answers questions that a human mind can’t ponder. It creates a bridge of trust directing us to God’s answer. Maybe He has a reason? Cliche but it’s true.

Rainbow Painter: Or maybe you’re handpicked?!

Rainbow Painter: Isn’t great to know that God chose you to experience difficulties because He knows you can handle it? Or you got this unique disease because you’re special to Him? That if others were given the same situation, they might not be as strong and brave as you are? And that the reason why you keep failing is because God already set a better place for you? Amid billions of people, you were personally selected by God to fulfill a certain purpose that only created for you. This journey is hard. You’ll be beaten and crashed into pieces. But God put His trust on you because He knows you can. So prove to Him that He made the right choice.

Pepper (Little Boy)

“If you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move,” – Matthew 17:20. This is the bible verse to which the main character, Pepper from the movie Little Boy grasps and set on his heart to bring his dad back.

I don’t know if this movie wants to improve the faith of its viewers but it did for me. The movie concentrates on the “ancient list” that Pepper needs to complete to bring his dad back from war. Well, that’s how it appears to the little boy but it is not how the priest explained it to him. The priest is saying that it’ll be up to God to decide on the outcome of list. The tasks are on the image below

Little Boy

plus a personal mission which is to befriend a Japanese man who is considered enemy of United States in the war.

So here’s the glitch but a beautiful one; one of the tasks is to bury the dead. Unfortunately, it was his dad who died in the war and he buried to complete the list. What’s the sense of completing the list if it is his father who needs to die to complete it? But the movie ends with Pepper being able to meet his dad again.

Technically, Pepper wasn’t able to complete the list because the task to bury the dead was voided due to a mistake on his father’s death. (One of the movies’ twists)

In reality, I see this glitch as how God really works in us. We may not be able to complete a certain task He wants us to do but He’s more than willing to give us blessings. We may not be able to meet his standards but He’s there to answer our prayers, to guide us and to love us.

Sid of the movie Ice Age is not just a funny sloth, but a source of hope. Sid paints a rainbow by saying this to Diego and Manny:

“bad news was good news in disguise… even though things look bad, there’s a rainbow around every corner… and nothing but smooth sailing ahead.”

Day 23 of review for the board exam, I am using a ball pen which is erasable. The characteristic of a ball pointed pen that is not its usual purpose. The purpose of using a ball pen is to write things permanently in a sheet of paper. I use this erasable pen so that everytime I have corrections, I can still erase it without messing the paper.  Ironically, whenever I use the pen, I do not experience any corrections. The opposite situation when I am using a permanent ball pen.

There is a lesson in this simple story that can be your life’s turning point. I paint a rainbow in this way: I do not experience corrections because I do not care with errors, for I am thinking what I need to write and when I am using the permanent one, I focused not to make errors so I fail to avoid it. When we know our goals and focus our eyes in what we are doing and believing, we can avoid erasures in our life. And when we are focusing on the gloomy side of life, we cannot see clearly so we cannot avoid erasures.

Fixed your eyes to your dreams and disregard the destructions and failures. Always believe that God guides our every action. We do not need to focus in not committing errors because God never fails providing the best path for His children. Instead of focusing in the possibility of your failures, focus in the certainty of your goals and dreams through God. Use a pen of faith and great dreams will be written.

Part of every school-minded person’s life is the last part of pencil and paper chapter, one of the chapters in my life that I have been waiting for. I am talking about collegiate graduation day, the day to give thanks to the Painter of my life. I am really waiting for this day since my story in choosing my course is different. It is not as easy as the yes or no questions. Nursing was my choice, but unfortunately, I woke up one day in the direction God has painted for me. I took the direction with doubt. I am in doubt taking engineering course. But as the day goes by, I am realizing that I am on the right track.

Last March 27, 2012, at 4:00 in the afternoon, it happened, the day to be grateful to God, to give the biggest thanks that I can. I spent 3 semesters for Nursing, 1 semester for Computer Engineering, and the rest of the days for Electronics Engineering, but God spent every seconds of His holy time for my wisdom, health, relationships, and blessings beyond the sky. I am being foolish when I doubted God’s plan. I realized the reason why God made a U-turn in my decision. I am not saying that Engineering is better to Nursing but it is what God wants me to do. Probably, He let me took Nursing to meet great friends, which adds color to my life and lead me to Electronics Engineering to complete the scene. I am confident that God is at my back, to tell me where I must go and give me the choice to take it, freely.

To the students who are also waiting in the last part of pencil and paper chapter, just keep the faith and God will lead the way. Make this chapter worth remembering by letting God write this chapter for you.

Few weeks ago, I’m in the library studying for my quiz in Broadcast Engineering and Acoustics subject. As I’m looking outside the window, the freezing air from the air conditioning unit was comforting my eyes to close. Out of this sleepy scene, a little bird catches my attention. This bird was flying the same way that other birds did, but when I looked at it for several times, I somehow realized how this bird painted a rainbow. It forced its little wings down, then up, repeats it, struggles, tries it again, and struggles, maintaining altitude, and then fly. See? Do you see what the little bird did? It doesn’t care whether hindrances blocked its way. To this little bird, what is more important is how it can fly.

Life is full of struggles. Everyone experiences hindrances along the way but how a person respond in the situation creates the difference. We must focus our eyes in the direction we are going and disregard the things that cause the delay in our flight. God does not promise a smooth journey but a magnificent landing. We will encounter struggles in reaching our dreams, but perseverance in keeping the altitude of our dreams will get us there, just in time.
